1822
Singhasari Temple is a relic of the Singhasari Kingdom, located in Malang, East Java. Built in the 13th century, this temple is a place of worship for King Kertanegara, showing the role of the temple as a spiritual and cultural center in the past.
1823-1904
During this period, artifacts from Indonesia were transferred to the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden for research and exhibition. Important artifacts from the archipelago were sent to Europe without the consent of the peoples of origin, as part of colonial policy.
1904 - August 2024
The Volkenkunde Museum is an ethnology museum that focuses on cultures from Asia, Africa, and the Pacific. Despite criticism regarding the origins of its collection obtained from colonialism, this museum introduces Indonesian culture in Europe.
In September 2024, On August 18, 2023, artifacts from the Volkenkunde Museum were returned to Indonesia and became part of the collection of the National Museum in Jakarta. This return has important symbolic value in the repatriation of historical items.
